Buying 2nd handed?

How risky do you think it is to buy a Micro Br 2nd handed?

I mean, I have gear that feels it's hard-as-nails, and as long as we dont throw it out of the window it will keep working regardless of the hours of use it has, on the other hand I realise there are pieces of equipment that are prone to have problems due to more harsh treatment, or less carefull users...

Empiricaly, how though would you say Micro Br is, and how safe would it be to buy it 2nd hand?

Hi Bro,

I recieved my second hand Micro BR in the mail today, I got if for half price on eBay Uk.

The original owner aparantly had not used it in one year, although stated it had a small dink.

Infact, the "dink" is really not even noticable. Condition is 100%.

For the discount price, it also came with a 1GB SD card ready for use!

However, I can see that this delicate instrument could have also arrived in a very much worse condition if it had been used more..

I think its best to take care when buying second hand, like anything in life

I bought mine used from a local Mom & Pop music store. They are kinda like a pawn/music/horse-trade store that deals mainly with musical equipment.

The one they had was hidden away in a glass case and as I was glaring through the case at all the goodies the mirror face reflected and caught my eye.

A guy had brought it in on a trade and it was fairly new with a few little scratches. I think they had actually forgotten it was in there. It had the original 128 card in it but no manual and everything seemed to work fine. They gave me a week to check it out to make sure all the functions were working properly.

They had a price of $179 on it and after about 10 minutes of talking music and gear with the guy I walked out with it for $115. The MBR sounds just as good if not better than some of the $200-$400 Fostex & Tascam 8-track multi-recorders I had been trying.

Now I just wish I had more TIME to play with it.

I sell these units through my music business and I have seen many sitting in the box after purchase.  Maybe 25% get used extensivley from day one and only one is taken on the road for capturing ideas, live stuff, etc.

So, I say if you are getting it half price (<$US110), then the risk is low.  And often you will get a power supply, card, and USB cable...

Thanks, thats what I thought.
These machines are quite though now a days.

To find out the time to learn "how to", and then actually "use it" will be the challenge.
Fortunatly there is this forum with all you guys the clear up any doubts related to the little "micro br" wonder...

Any second-hand electronic or musical instrument purchase carries a slight risk (especially when it's 'unseen' like on eBay). You just have to weigh up the cost benefits versus the risk.

The BR looks a sturdy little unit to me, so aside from card issues(which can be replaced), I can't see huge risks attached to it. And all the manuals are downloadable, so thats one less thing to worry about.

By the way, I've read that the original card comes with a demo file.
Is it usefull? And is that downloadable anywere?
(Its not the first seller I read about that deletes it because of the lack of space in the card...)

Great download section there!
Funny how I've "mentaly" associated the download section to "music made by the members" and kinda forget to take a peek in there...

By the way, hopefully next week I'll be poking in my own Micro Br!(and probably posting very basic questions to very basic doubts...)
